What format are the matches and how long will the matches last?

The U10, U11 and U13 teams play pairs cricket where each pair bats for 4 overs (6 balls) each. If you are out then you carry on playing the rest of your overs but you lose 6 runs. There are 8 players in the team so each side will bat for 16 overs. Matches tend to last about 2 hours.

The U14 team plays 20 over cricket and it is 11-a-side. Normal cricket rules apply so once you’re out, you’re out. Matches tend to last between 2.5 hours and 3 hours. Some matches may finish a little earlier, depending on how the match goes.

How does the scoring work and what are the rules in pairs cricket (U10, U11 & U13)?

Every team starts with 200 runs. Batting is done in pairs with 8 players in each side. Every pair bats for 4 overs.

To score a run requires the batter to strike the ball and run to the opposite end of the pitch while their batting partner runs in the other direction. To record the scoring run, both batters need to touch the floor behind the popping crease with either their bat or body. In situations where the fielding team has not recovered the ball, the batters return back to score two or more runs. It is also possible to score runs without running the length of the pitch, if a batter can hit the ball past the boundary line (four runs) or over the line without bouncing (six runs).

You lose 5 runs for every wicket but stay batting for their pair’s 4 overs. Bowlers bowl a maximum of 3 overs.

The aim for the batter in cricket is to try to score as many runs as possible throughout their innings.

What league do the teams play in?

The U10 and U14 teams play in the Warwickshire Junior League. The U11 and U13 teams play in the Cotswold Hills Junior League.

Do you use hard balls or soft balls?

For All Stars Cricket (5-8), soft balls are used. For juniors’ cricket (9-14), hard balls are used.

What happens if it rains?

All parents/guardians will be added to the Juniors WhatsApp group and communications regarding weather cancellations will be done via WhatsApp.

If the rain passes quickly then the match will resume when it is safe to play again. If it is heavier and lasts longer, then the match will be abandoned. If it is clear before the match that it won’t be possible to play, parents/guardians will be contacted as soon as possible to be informed that the match is off.
